Installation

Requirements

RequirementMinimum
WordPress6.0 or later
PHP7.4 or later
Root directoryWritable by the web server (for physical file output)

  1. In your WordPress admin go to Plugins → Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for Project LLMs.txt.
  3. Click Install Now, then Activate.

That’s it. A new LLMs.txt menu item appears in the admin sidebar.

Manual zip upload

If your server can’t reach the WordPress.org repository, or you’re on a private network:

  1. Download the latest zip from wordpress.org/plugins/project-llmstxt.
  2. In your WordPress admin go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the zip file and click Install Now, then Activate.

Installing the Pro version Pro

The Pro plugin is distributed separately from projectllmstxt.com - it is a full replacement for the free version, not an add-on.

  1. Purchase a Pro license at projectllmstxt.com/pricing. Your receipt email contains the Pro zip download link and your license key.
  2. Deactivate the free plugin (if installed) in Plugins → Installed Plugins.
  3. Upload the Pro zip via Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and activate it.
  4. Go to LLMs.txt → Settings and enter your license key to unlock Pro features.

The License section of the Settings tab showing a masked license key, the number of sites allowed, when it was last verified, and a green Active badge

Tip: You can also upload the Pro zip directly over the free version without deactivating first - WordPress will replace the existing files and keep your settings.

After activation

Once the plugin is active:

  • The LLMs.txt item appears in the WordPress admin sidebar.
  • No files are written yet - output is generated on demand. Head to the Quick start → to run your first generation.

Troubleshooting activation

If the LLMs.txt menu item does not appear after activation, try deactivating and reactivating the plugin. If the root directory is not writable, the plugin will still activate; you can switch to Live Endpoint mode or fix the directory permissions later. See Troubleshooting → for more.
